On Monday the Pittsburgh Penguins placed Antti Niemi on Waivers. Niemi career numbers are 426 games played 227 wins Career Goals against Average 2.52 and a Save Percentage of .912%. His numbers this year are not nearly as good with 3 games played no wins, Goals against average of 7.5 and a save percentage of ,797%. Neimi was also pulled 9 minutes into his first game of the season. Tuesday the Florida Panthers would be claimed Niemi due to the injury to Roberto Luongo.
The Penguins on Tuesday called up Casey DeSmith. DeSmith, 26, has no NHL experience but has been setting the AHL on fire with a 3-0 record, a .98 Goals Against Average, and a .965 save percentage this season in Wilkes-Barre Scranton. Last year in his rookie AHL campaign he went 21-5-3 with a 2.01 Goals Against Average and a .926 save percentage. DeSmith’s first NHL game may very well be on Oct. 29 against the Winnipeg Jets.
