On Saturday October 21, 2017 the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins would make a trade. Pittsburgh would send Forward Scott Wilson and a 2018 3rd round pick to Detroit for Forward Riley Sheahan and 2018 5th round pick.

Riley Sheahan in 8 games played for the Red Wings this season has no goals, no assists, and 4 penalty minutes. In his career he has played 292 games with 38 goals, 60 assists, 56 penalty minutes and a -32. Sheahan would most likely take over the 3rd line center spot. It was a move that helped both teams, giving Pittsburgh a hopeful 3rd line center and freed up cap space for the Red Wings that was needed after signing restricted free Agent Andreas Athanasiou. Sheahan would most likely join the team for Practice on Sunday and Monday and play against the Oilers on Tuesday.
