Day 2 of the Pre-tournament games had only one game but it was Team USA vs Team Canada, played at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH. The starting Goalies for the game were Jonathan Quick and Carey Price. The first period was a fast pace affair. The first 16 minutes of the game both goalies made some nice saves. Zach Parise opened the Scoring for Team USA at the 16:56 mark of 1st with assist by Ryan Suter and Derek Stepan. Patrick Kane added a 2nd score at 18:01 with assist by Joe Pavelski.. After the 2nd Goal Team Canada started getting chippy. The first scuffle was started by Captain Sidney Crosby though Team Canada managed to get Powerplay out of the scuffle. The 2nd period started out slower for the first 5 minutes and then Team Canada started to bring pressure. Jonathan Quick made some nice saves and was helped by Ryan Kesler making a beautiful kick save in the crease. Logan Couture left the game in the 2nd after going head first into the boards on a check by T.J Oshie. At 13:24 of the 2nd Patrice Bergeron scored for Team Canada making 2-1 with assist from Sidney Crosby and Brad Marchand. Joe Pavelski answered at 15:54 of 2nd making the score 3-1 with assist by Jack Johnson and Patrick Kane . Ryan Kesler was ejected at the 17:05 mark of the 2nd for boarding Shea Weber. The 3rd Period started with Ben Bishop in net for Team USA. Drew Doughty scored at 05:21 to make the score 3-2. Assist by Ryan Getzlaf and Jake Muzzin. With 2 minutes left Team Canada pulled their goalie to attempt to tie the game. Derek Stepan added an empty netter at 18:39 to make the score 4-2 and that’s how the game would end. I was surprised at how physical the game was considering that it was only the first pre-qualifier game. The two head play again tomorrow at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa
